Georgian Association of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation inform you that on September 8, 2022, the week related to World Physical Therapy Day begins, which will end on September 15 with a conference. World Physical Therapy Day is September 8, which has been successfully celebrated in Georgia for the last 3 years. In 2022, World Physiotherapy will focus on the role of physical therapy in the treatment and rehabilitation of osteoarthritis.

During a week related to World Physical Therapy Day, Georgian Association of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation will held educational meetings for patients with Osteoarthritis and to their family members in Ken Walker Medical Rehabilitation University Clinic, which aims to raise their awareness about the role of physical therapy in the management of this pathology.

On September 15, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. related to World Physical Therapy day, Georgian Association of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation will held a conference on the role of physical therapy in the management of rehabilitation of osteoarthritis. Conference will be held in Ken Walker Medical Rehabilitation University Clinic, 3rd floor, conference hall A.

April 9-11 2021 is the confirmed date for World Physiotherapy international congress which is the most important event for the scientific and professional practice of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation. This year the congress will be held in online format.

On February 9-15, 2020 Georgian Association of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation (GAPTAR) was celebrating National Cardiac Rehabilitation Awareness Week to draw attention to the role Cardiac Rehabilitation plays in the care of heart disease patients. On 14th February GAPTAR team members together with Tbilisi State Medical University Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinical Center physicians and physical therapists shared their visions, achievements, challenges, and plans in regards of development of Cardiac Rehabilitation programs in different clinical and community based settings in Georgia.

        WCPT congress was held on the 08th-13th may of 2019 in Geneva during which Georgian Association of Physical Therapy And Rehabilitation (GAPTAR) was officially admitted as a full-fledged member.

      The President of Georgian Association of Physical therapy And Rehabilitation Mariam bakhutashvili and the Vice president Levan Akhalkatsi took part in the aforementioned event as representatives of GAPTAR.

       During the congress, Georgian delegates held important meetings with WCPT president Emma Stokes, Chairman of the ER-WCPT (European Region) Esther-Mary D’Arcy and many other representatives and delegates from various physical therapy associations of different countries.

       Georgian Association of Physical Therapy And Rehabilitation (GAPTAR) congratulates all of its’ members with this immense success and wishes them to have constant progress in their own professional development in accordance with the standards set by the WCPT.

                                                             See Everything

​

 Tbilisi State Medical University is hosting  an anti-stigma  campaign-“See Everything”. It aims at changing society’s behavior , norms and attitudes and raising awareness of stereotypes  and stigmas established in the society about  children and young people with special needs.

The speakers of the meeting will be:

Maguli Shaghashvili- UNICEF;                        

Maia Shishniashvili- the parent of a child with disability.

The campaign “ See Everything” is implemented with the initiative of UNICEF, with the support of European Union and  USAID and with active involvement of  children with disabilities and their parents.

                                    Amazing News from  WCPT !

I am very pleased to inform you that at the meeting of the WCPT Executive Board held on 22nd April 2018, the Georgian Association of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation was approved as a provisional member of the WCPT.  The Executive Board will now recommend to the next General Meeting of WCPT that the Georgian Association of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation be admitted to full membership.

  1. November 2017–  Official registration of the memorandum of collaboration between Georgian Association of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation and Tbilisi State Medical University on development of physical therapy educational programs.

  2. November-December 2017 – research regarding employment of the graduates of physical therapy programs in Georgia.

  3. November-December 2017 – design and introduce GAPTAR web-site.

  4. February 2018 – GAPTAR active work with Ministry of Labor, Health, and Social Affairs of Georgia (MoHLSA) regarding development of practice standards.

  5. June 2018 – First international conference of GAPTAR (Tbilisi).

  6. July 2018 – GAPTAR starts collaboration with SPRING (Strengthening Physical Rehabilitation in Georgia) project.

  7. October 2018 – GAPTAR seminar dedicated to development of integrated strategy of development of physical therapy programs in Georgian educational system.
